REI, the nation’s largest consumer co-op and specialty outdoor retailer, has announced plans to close its doors on Black Friday (November 27) at all 143 of its retail locations, headquarters and two distribution centers. Instead of reporting to work, the co-op is paying its 12,000 employees so they can do what they love most – be outside. Their #OptOutside campaign is encouraging people across the country to follow suit and post their commitment to it at their Opt Outside page.
The SIA Staff is Dreaming of a White Black Friday
As for us here at SIA, the office is closed on Black Friday as well, and the staff is dreaming of getting out on the snow! Some of us are close to a resort that’s already open and will be taking full advantage of the day off (and some of us may have to keep dreaming until the lifts turn close-by). One way or another, whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or hiking, we’ll all #OptOutside this Black Friday!
With 69 resorts already open in North America, Black Friday will be a great day for many people to #OptOutside and work off that turkey. With thanks to OnTheSnow.com, here’s a list of all of the resorts that are currently open in North America:
